10 Places to See While Visiting Western PEI

Looking for the best things to do in Western PEI? The North Cape Coastal Drive is filled with stunning coastal views, unique cultural experiences, and one-of-a-kind attractions you won’t find anywhere else on the Island. Here are 10 must-visit places to add to your Western PEI itinerary.

1. Green Gable Alpacas

Don’t miss one of the cutest places in Western PEI. Green Gable Alpacas is a working farm raising happy, healthy alpacas for their soft fibres. Book a guided tour to meet the herd, learn how the farm operates, and even try spinning your own yarn. They also host creative workshops like Fun With Fibre, where you can hand-paint yarn or try needle felting. Reservations are required, so plan ahead!

2. Bideford Parsonage Museum

Step back in time at the Bideford Parsonage Museum, once home to L.M. Montgomery during her first teaching assignment. Carefully restored to reflect life in the late 19th century, the parsonage offers both guided and self-guided tours filled with fascinating stories, artifacts, and a glimpse into the life of PEI’s most famous author.

3. Lennox Island

Lennox Island is home to the Lennox Island First Nation, of the Mi’kmaq people, and offers visitors a meaningful way to connect with Indigenous culture. Through authentic experiences like The Beat of the Drum, Bannock & Clams in the Sand, and Quillwork on Birch Bark, you’ll learn about Mi’kmaq traditions, food, and stories. Walking tours and the Cultural Centre provide even more opportunities to understand the Island’s deep history and living culture.

4. North Cape

At the northernmost tip of PEI, you’ll find incredible coastal scenery and rich history. Visit the North Cape Wind Energy Interpretive Centre to learn about the Island’s pioneering role in renewable energy, explore the dramatic Black Marsh Trail, and see the longest natural rock reef in North America at low tide. It’s a true highlight of the North Cape Coastal Drive.

5. Stompin’ Tom Centre

Celebrate the life and music of Canadian icon Stompin’ Tom Connors at this lively cultural centre in Skinners Pond, his boyhood home. Enjoy daily entertainment, live music, storytelling, and exhibits that honour his legacy — plus hearty meals served up at the onsite restaurant.

6. West Point Lighthouse

Climb PEI’s tallest lighthouse for a panoramic view of the Northumberland Strait, or spend the night in one of the unique rooms inside the historic tower. With its striking black-and-white stripes and sandy beach, West Point is both picture-perfect and steeped in Island history.

7. Mill River Resort

Whether you’re into golf, spa days, or family-friendly adventures, Mill River Resort has it all. Tee off on the championship golf course, enjoy a treatment at the spa, or relax at the Aquaplex with waterslides and a pool. The resort is a great base for exploring Western PEI.

8. Moth Lane Brewing

A hidden gem located seaside in Ellerslie, Moth Lane Brewing is worth the trip. This off-the-beaten-path brewery offers craft beer with a view — sip a pint on their deck overlooking the water, or pair your drink with a tasty meal from the kitchen. It’s Island hospitality at its finest.

9. Tyne Valley

This charming village has a lot to offer. Visit Green Park Provincial Park to tour the Shipbuilding Museum and Historic Yeo House, grab a seriously delicious burger from Backwoods Burger, or settle in with a cup of tea at Tyne Valley Teas Café. If you’re visiting in August, don’t miss the famous Tyne Valley Oyster Festival.

10. Canadian Potato Museum

Finish your North Cape adventure with a visit to the Canadian Potato Museum in O’Leary. Discover the story of PEI’s most famous export, see antique farming equipment, and stop by the Potato Country Kitchen for potato-inspired dishes (their loaded baked potato is a must-try).

From alpaca farms and lighthouses to Mi’kmaq cultural experiences and local craft breweries, the North Cape Coastal Drive is one of the best ways to explore Western PEI. Plan a trip to this beautiful part of Prince Edward Island and discover why it’s a favourite for travellers looking for unforgettable Island adventures.
