Things to Do

Exploring the Heart of PEI

As we look back on summer and move ahead towards fall,  we can all agree that there’s no place on earth we would rather be than in PEI. The delicious food, the local shops and the breathtaking sunsets night after night; we can’t get enough of this amazing island. In a year that has had us staying much closer to home, we couldn’t be more grateful that our Island is the place we get to explore!

From getting out of your comfort zone on a new adventure, finally visiting that restaurant you’ve been meaning to try, or slowing down to take in the sights, exploring the Island is always a delight! Follow along on a Central PEI journey and discover all

Start the day off right…

An adventure through Central Coastal PEI must first and foremost begin with coffee. Kensington has kicked it up a notch with a few sweet coffee shops and bakeries including the C&B Corner Café. Their brewed coffee is incredible, but what you really come here for is the insanely delicious “Breakfast Sammich”. This sweet and savoury combo with housemade herb and garlic cream cheese and mayo, old cheddar and Glasgow Glen gouda, bacon and ham jam, and an egg on fresh sourdough is mouthwatering.  The only thing to make it better? Pairing it with their famous “Bright Pink Drink”! The folks at C&B believe this is the drink Anne Shirley herself would choose and once you taste this refreshing mix of strawberry purée, coconut milk, and a hint of mint, you’ll  agree, no doubt.

More than one sweet treat…

One wander through rural PEI and you’ll remember just how quaint and cozy it truly is here, and who does quaint and cozy better than Village Pottery? Now in their 40th year, this is the Island’s longest running pottery shop and they do a fantastic job at showcasing the talent of local potters and artists. Located in a sweet heritage home, this family business is stock-full of stunning pottery of all shapes, sizes and colours. Once you’ve picked out a piece or two, head over to the  bright yellow house next door for a sweet treat. The Potter’s Parlour is another historic home that has been transformed into a unique Ice Cream Shop, also serving up espresso drinks and baked goods. Between the pottery and the treats, this stop is always worth your while.

An artists’ paradise!

Continuing on, the scenic drive through French River leading to Tony Diodati’s Art Gallery is about as small town and picturesque as they come. Tony’s art is inspired by the beauty of PEI, including the blissful little corner of the Island he and his partner call home. His gallery and studio are surrounded by tailored gardens and vistas of the peaceful French River Cannery and New London Bay. What an ideal, romantic and stunning location to compliment his work! Tony’s pieces are authentic, vibrant, thematic and relaxing. It’s a true Island treasure to have his artwork hanging in your home.

Escape into zen…

Wandering through The Dunes Studio Gallery & Café is an experience in itself. The layers of this magical place unfold before you with each step. First you’re exploring fashion trends and one-of-a-kind jewelry, then you’re onto stunning pottery and art. Throughout every inch of the Gallery there’s no missing the unique furniture and woodwork; pieces have been created and carved into showstoppers. The magic of The Dunes lies in the lush, green garden that begs you to explore, reflect and take lots of photos. You could easily spend a day working your way through each section of The Dunes Studio Gallery & Café, breaking for lunch in between. Everything is delicious, especially their Pad Thai!

Charmed by history

From the elaborate staircase as you walk in, to the elegant furnishings in the guest rooms, you can relax and listen to the ocean waves from your cozy bed. Incomparable PEI beauty

What is a journey through the heart of PEI without a trip to the beach? Whether you choose the South or North Shore (we’ll let you debate on that), the sandy shores and sea breeze is something we don’t take for granted. Days on end can be spent relaxing in a beach chair watching a spectacular sunrise and a breathtaking sunset. The Prince Edward Island National Parks in particular are a little slice of heaven on earth!

Time after time we find ourselves admiring everything about the Island we call home. Tourism PEI has given our community access to business operators’ thoughtful packages, a variety of itineraries, and many other ways to support local and explore everything PEI has to offer. What an absolute treat!
