Coastal Drives

A Points East Paradise

Exploring the Island in the summer is a treat, and exploring the Points East Coastal Drive is totally delicious! The rolling hills of green, distant sounds of a fiddle, the local flavours and exquisite talent, watching the Northumberland ferries carry travellers across the shimmering sea from one sun-soaked coast to another, and beaches! So many beaches!

Experience the white sandy shores of the national parks, the sea-glass coast in Souris, the unbelievable views at Panmure Island, and absolutely everything in between. We have no doubt you’ll agree that Eastern PEI is a sandy slice paradise. Let the adventuring begin!

The 8th World Wonder

One of Canada’s most unique national treasures is here along the Points East Coastal Drive! Greenwich National Park is a true sight to behold. Not only are its shores covered in pristine white, sand, but your path to the beach is straight out of a painting. Discover the beauty of the island as you hike through the trails, stand awestruck on the floating boardwalks, and take in the views of the parabolic sand dunes cresting the coastline. This is definitely the eighth world wonder!

Set Sail

Exploring the coast by land is incredible, but if you’re looking for a new way to discover the island, may we suggesting heading out to sea? Whether you strap on a life jacket and paddle the day away with East Coast Paddle Adventures or Paddles on Fortune River, or set sail for a deep sea fishing (and musical!) adventure with The Fiddling Fisherman, one thing is certain – seeing the Island from this point of view is an experience you won’t soon forget.

A Foodie’s Dream

It’s certainly no secret that Prince Edward Island is a foodie’s heaven. Here on the Island, the bounty of local goodness is simply too fabulous to ignore and along the eastern coast you’ll find an impressive list of culinary points of call. Set up a beach picnic at the beautiful Tracadie Bay, featuring some delicious PEI seafood from FiN Takeaway. Dine out on Island fare at The Wheelhouse in Georgetown while enjoying breathtaking views of the Brudenell River. Join the party of world-class entertainment with a craft beer in hand at Copperbottom Brewing or pair your craft beer with some BBQ at Bogside Brewing in Montague, or head to the Point Prim Chowder House for their legendary chowder, dreamy seaside deck, and spectacular sunsets.

If you’re looking for a full fledged culinary affair, Chef Michael Smith has created not just a meal, but an unmissable event at his Inn at Bay Fortune. The Fireworks Feast is a world-renowned farm-to-table experience with a new menu every day drawing ingredients and inspiration from the Inn’s own herb gardens and a bounty of producers around the Island. And to top it off, it’s all prepared in a 25-foot long, brick-lined, wood-burning, fire-breathing beast!

A Little Local Love

It’s not only the world of food where PEI’s talent is shines – no, the Island’s talent beams from all facets from art to performance, music to craftspeople! Make a stop in St. Peter’s to the charming art studio and tea room, Freckles & Porcelain, or make your way down to the Souris Beach Provincial Park boardwalk to pick up some of Lindsey Ross‘ fine art pieces with an incredible view of the water!

Get a unique piece of handcrafted jewelry from Shoreline Design or stop in to the sweet shops by many of the region’s lighthouses such as Point Prim or East Point for sweet souvenirs, crafts, and local music that will keep a PEI summer near and dear to your heart all year round.

Beach Day Bliss

We aren’t kidding when we say that Points East Coastal Drive is paradise. What else would you call a breathtakingly beautiful region with fifty beaches? That’s right! Fifty! 5-0. Dip your toes in the warm water along the south shore and look out onto the mainland of Nova Scotia across the Northumberland Strait. Or stretch a towel in the sand along the north shore where the majestic blue sea comes alive with the sun and wind.

Float in and out with the changing tides at Basin Head Beach, spend the day along the dune-hedged, white sand beauty of Blooming Point, or head to Panmure Island where you can look to the right and see the white sands and ocean views, or to the left for the sheltered, red sand beach of St. Mary’s Bay. And that’s only the beginning of your sandy shore journey!

Take a Ride

If you’re looking for serenity, the Brudenell Riding Stables will give you just that. We can think of nothing more peaceful than a relaxing shoreline saunter on horseback overlooking the Brudenell River. Explore the wooded trails, breathe in the fresh air, gaze into the sunset, and fall more in love with PEI by the minute as you meander along the coast. From private trail rides, pony rides, horse camps, and beach rides, this is your chance to saddle up, unwind, and enjoy the view!

Fairway Fun

What is an Island summer without chasing a little white ball around some of PEI’s most famous courses? Rolling fairways, challenging layouts, and epic coastal views make for a next-level round. The Points East Coastal Drive is home to PEI’s Finest Golf, meaning you’ll never be at a loss for a marvellous day along the fairways!

Revered for its unique design and red sand bunkers, Dundarave’s complex course is home to some of the more beautiful landscapes the Island has to offer. Intertwined with Dundarave is Brudenell, the course long-known for being PEI’s most popular – and for good reason! The course and the Rodd Brudenell River Resort have hosted some of the finest professional matches and the course has been awarded as one of the Top 50 golf courses in Canada! Finishing the PEI’s Finest trio is The Links at Crowbush Cove, where all 6,903 yards of course prove to be a challenge well-worth taking!

There’s no doubt that there’s a special kind of magic along the Points East Coastal Drive. There’s just something about those rolling fields of green, the coastal beauty, local flavour, and warm hospitality that draws you in and makes you feel at home. Every moment of the 475 km scenic drive is filled with culture, charm, and true beauty and we can’t wait to keep exploring the east all summer long!
