Victoria by the Sea

Take a leisurely stroll down the pier and weave your way around the tiny village’s small streets. You’ll stumble upon antique stores, art galleries, and pottery shops.

To enjoy Victoria from the sea, take a kayak rental from By the Sea Kayaking. The warm and protected waters of Victoria on the south shore make for the perfect environment for a relaxing day on the water. If you’re looking to work for your meal, you can even take in some clam digging to top off the day.

In the heart of Victoria you’ll find the Landmark Oyster House. This Island gem serves delicious fresh food, oysters, and drinks paired with great service and a lively chill atmosphere.

After dinner head across the street to the Victoria Playhouse. This historic theatre dates back to 1915 and has been a gathering place for entertainment and fun ever since. Offering up a series of plays, comedies, and concerts, this is a great way to spend a night in rural PEI.

North Rustico

Situated on the Island’s north shore, North Rustico is known for being one of the best places for lobster fishing on the Island. This means there are plenty of chances to sample the catch of the day at one of its many markets or restaurants.

Tucked in amongst the fishing shacks on the wharf, The Blue Mussel Cafe provides wholesome foods, where nothing is deep fried. Sit on the deck, enjoy the Raspberry Point Mussels, and take in the beautiful ocean view.

After lunch, enjoy the afternoon by taking a stroll along the boardwalk. Keep an eye out for famous local fisherman, the Bearded Skipper, taking in his traps. Stop and say hello, he might have a seafaring story to share with you! Cross the road, and you’ll reach the beautiful sandy beach, part of the National Park, where you can spend time beachcombing, walking, and relaxing by the water.

An Island staple, a traditional lobster supper is a must for any Prince Edward Island vacation. At the Fisherman’s Wharf Lobster Suppers, try the lobster in the shell, and indulge in the 60 foot salad bar that includes unlimited Island blue mussels, seafood chowder, and locally made pie.

Georgetown

Along the Points East Coastal Drive you’ll find Georgetown, conveniently located near some of the best of the Island’s golf courses and beaches. Its harbour has long been considered the first of its kind to be built on the Eastern Seaboard, and it’s recognized as being one of the deepest natural harbours in North America. This small community offers up a taste of authentic Island culture.

Arrange to spend your afternoon in true vacation mode with the Giant Bar Clam Dig, an experience offered by Tranquility Cove Adventures. You’ll begin with digging for clams in chest-high waters (they bring the wetsuit and gear for you!) The friendly crew will cook up your catch, and you’ll enjoy a beach cook-out on a deserted island. On your way back to Georgetown you’ll pass by PEI’s oldest wooden lighthouse and may even haul up a few lobster traps along the way.

The King’s Playhouse, one of the longest running theatres in Canada, offers up an impressive array of local and visiting talent. Attend a Tuesday night Ceilidh where you’ll be able to sing and dance into the night with the locals. Check out the Playhouse’s schedule of events to learn more.

Northport

Along the North Cape Coastal Drive you’ll find the community of Northport. Its harbour is home to a thriving fishing community, and also boasts a seaside restaurant and hotel.

Drive past the wharf and take Main Street (Route 152) to the end of the point, turn left, and drive right out to the beach at the tip of the point. From here, you’ll be surrounded by water on both sides, and you’ll have a great view of the Northport Harbour and nearby Oultons Island.

After enjoying a day out on the water, the North Port Pier Restaurant is the perfect place to relax. Try the seafood chowder, it’s one of our favourites. You’ll know you’re in a fishing village the minute you step in the door, with its colourful buoys, anchors, and old nautical photographs lining the walls. This former boat building shop has a picturesque view of the harbour through the two story glass window making it a great setting for an evening dinner.

Cap off your day on the ocean with a restful sleep next door at the Northport Pier Inn. The Inn is known for its hospitality and friendly local staff. With a room overlooking the water, you’ll get the benefits of breathing in the salty air all night long.
