Choose Your Own Adventure

Find Your Paradise along the Points East Coastal Drive

Whether you’ve just hopped off the ferry for a quick weekend trip or you’re conquering the Island from tip to tip, exploring the Points East Coastal Drive is an experience you’ll immediately fall in love with. Offering up a ‘choose your own adventure’ lineup of possibilities, the drive can take you from a beach bum’s paradise to a quaint seaside fishing town to world renowned golf courses. Finding your perfect holiday adventure is easy when you have the ‘drive as your guide.

Soak in the Scenery

The Points East Coastal Drive is road trip heaven. One of the most picturesque regions on the Island, the region boasts pristine landscapes, sparkling waters, and charming rural communities at every turn. Drive the loop and you’ll get a taste of everything, from the stunning Panmure Island to a roadside selfie with Island cattle.

Hit the Beach

Beaches are plentiful on PEI, and beach bums can rejoice in the many options along the eastern shores: Singing Sands, Greenwich Sand Dunes, Panmure Island, Boughton Island and Lakeside Cove.

Among them, Basin Head beach (also known as Singing Sands) is one of PEI’s most-loved. There is one thing that sets it apart from all the rest …it sings! As you run your feet through the sand, you’ll hear the most distinctive squeaking noises. If that’s not enough for you, Basin Head Beach boasts a nine-mile stretch of magnificent white sands and has some of the warmest waters north of Florida.

Another local’s favourite is one of PEI’s most scenic and accessible beaches: Lakeside Beach. Here you’ll find a gorgeous mile-long white sandy beach that’s nestled beside the fairways of the Links at Crowbush Cove.

Golf on a Fairway to Heaven

Boasting a dozen golf courses, there are no shortage of options to ‘drive’ your way through the Points East Coastal Drive. Known as Canada’s #1 golf destination, it’s easy to see what attracts the pros and amateur golfers alike to Prince Edward Island. From descending hills with picturesque coastal views to forested corridors hugged by sparkling lakes, you’ll quickly fall in love with golfing Island-style.

Take a Hike

A trip along the Points East Coastal drive would not be complete without a visit to the Greenwich site of the PEI National Park. The spectacular parabolic dune system rises above white-sand beaches and acts as a stunning backdrop to an extensive trail system that includes a floating boardwalk. And the best part about taking a jaunt at Greenwich? The stunning reward of a beachside sunset awaiting you at the end.

Get Out on the Water

There are plenty of opportunities to test out your sea legs with a day out on the water. From giant bar clam digs, to a celidh onboard a lobster fishing boat, to deep-sea fishing expeditions (where you can catch everything from lobster to Bluefin Tuna!) there are no shortage of ways to work for your dinner.

 Chase the Light

Only eight lighthouses on PEI are open to the public, and luckily six of those can be found along the Points East Coastal Drive. A visit to one of these beautiful, heroic and romantic structures provides endless photo opportunities and a chance to step back in time. Take a tour to dive into the fascinating seafaring history, and cap it off with the best ocean view from the top.
