Plan Your VisitPEI Lighthouses
Wood Islands Lighthouse
Wood Islands Lighthouse was first lit in 1876 and is unique as the last lighthouse on Prince Edward Island where the keeper and their family lived inside the tower. The attached dwelling, which saw several changes over the years, remains connected to the lighthouse today.
The harbour at Wood Islands has long been an important transportation link between Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. A mail service once ran between Wood Islands and Pictou, and the construction of the ferry terminal in 1937 further established the harbour as a key gateway to the Island.
Today, visitors can explore exhibits on local history, lighthouses, fishing, the ferry service, and even the area’s bootlegging past.
