Seacow Head Lighthouse

Overlooking the Northumberland Strait near Fernwood, Seacow Head Lighthouse has been a landmark on PEI's western shore since 1864. The octagonal wooden tower is one of the oldest of its kind still standing in the Maritimes and offers beautiful views of the coastline and passing fishing boats.

Known as one of PEI's "Sister Lights," Seacow Head played an important role in guiding marine traffic through the Strait and later helped direct ferries travelling between PEI and New Brunswick. The lighthouse remains active today and was famously moved inland in 1979 to protect it from the steadily eroding cliffs beneath it.
