Blockhouse Point Lighthouse was built in 1876 to serve as an outer harbour light guiding ships into Charlottetown Harbour. It stands near the entrance to the harbour along the Island’s south shore.

Before the current lighthouse was constructed, earlier lights were displayed at the Blockhouse as early as the 1840s to help guide vessels safely through the harbour entrance.

The lighthouse features a distinctive tower rising from a large keeper’s dwelling, making it one of the more unusual lighthouse structures on Prince Edward Island.

Today, the historic lighthouse remains an important landmark along the Charlottetown Harbour shoreline.
