Insider’s Tip

This year, The Toy Factory is celebrating 50 years of toy making! Follow their Facebook to stay up to date on awesome 50th Anniversary giveaways and special sales all season long.

Nestled among rolling hills by the sparkling River Clyde, stands the oldest building in New Glasgow. It’s the perfect storybook setting for The Toy Factory, a vibrant toy store and toy-making workshop reminiscent of those in days past, now in its 50th year!

Since taking over The Toy Factory in 1990, Dan and Kathy Viau have passionately carried on the toy-making legacy, adding new designs to the original Toy Factory collection. Each toy is carefully handcrafted one-at-a-time from natural Canadian pine and maple, using glue, wooden pegs and specialized clamps and jigs. There are no plastic or metal parts and no chemical finishes, but there is a lifetime guarantee. Want to witness the toy-making magic in the making? The workshop is open to visitors throughout the summer, when it’s not too noisy!

At The Toy Factory, you can rest assured that every single toy in the store is made to last, from their own handcrafted wooden toys to all the wonderful toys they source from other toymakers around the world. Find unique and delightful toys and games, including toys that are not so easy to come by, like the adorable and imaginative world of Tinyly dolls created in France and the softest plushies in the world from London-based Jellycat. The days of make-believe are alive and well here, with minimal toy designs and open-ended play encouraging children to use their imagination – even while they’re shopping! Here, kids are free to be kids with plenty of toys to try in the “hands-on” play areas. They can be swashbuckling pirates, fierce warrior princesses, knights in shining armor, or even go on a safari adventure! Adults will be pleased with the vast collection of fairy figurines as well as beautiful and sustainably sourced crystals, gemstones and rare minerals.

From the wooden toy soldiers welcoming you at the door to the unique creatures in the playground that are perfect for family selfies, at The Toy Factory you’ll be stepping into a world of fun, where imagination comes to life and visitors of all ages will feel like kids again!
