Basin Head Provincial Park

Basin Head is best known for its “singing sand.” On warm days, the high silica content in the sand makes it squeak beneath your feet — a small detail that surprises first-time visitors every summer.

The beach stretches for kilometres, with bright white sand and plenty of space to settle in for the day. A narrow channel connects the open water to the inland pond, and the current can move quickly depending on the tide. During the summer season, the beach is supervised, and lifeguards monitor the channel to keep swimmers safe.

As part of Basin Head Provincial Park, the beach offers washrooms, parking, and a seasonal canteen. The surrounding watershed is also a designated Marine Protected Area, created to protect a rare strain of Irish Moss found only in this area.
