North Cape Lighthouse

North Cape Lighthouse stands at the northernmost point of Prince Edward Island, where the waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Northumberland Strait meet. The lighthouse was built between 1865 and 1866 to warn mariners of the long natural rock reef extending nearly three kilometres off the point.

The white, octagonal wooden tower topped with a red lantern has long been a landmark along this rugged stretch of coastline. Over the years, the lighthouse had to be moved inland several times as coastal erosion reshaped the shoreline.

Today, the lighthouse remains an important part of the North Cape landscape, though the tower itself is fenced off from public access for safety.

OPEN TO PUBLIC: This lighthouse is not open to the public.

CLIMBABLE TOWER: This lighthouse does not have a climbable tower.

AMENITIES: Although the lighthouse itself does not offer amenities, it is next to the North Cape Interpretive Centre.
