Cape Bear Lighthouse
Cape Bear Lighthouse was built in 1881 on the southeastern tip of Prince Edward Island near Murray Harbour, about an hour from Charlottetown. From the shoreline here, you can look out across the Northumberland Strait and sometimes see Nova Scotia in the distance.
Cape Bear is also known for its connection to the Titanic. The Marconi wireless station once located here was the first land station in Canada to receive the ship’s distress signals in 1912.
Today the site includes the historic lighthouse and a small museum that shares the story of the Marconi station and the Titanic message received at Cape Bear.
