Insider’s Tip

Don’t miss out on the new Broken Rock Fossil Shop, the newest addition to the Belfast Mini Mills site, featuring a dazzling collection of crystals and fossils from all over the world!

A vibrant hub of creativity, passion, and colour for days, Belfast Mini Mills is a true knitter’s paradise! For those that love textiles, traditional crafts and culture, this venture east is truly a unique and worthwhile experience.

Tucked into the pastoral landscape of Belfast, the family-run operation (eight members in total) produces advanced scaled-down textile machinery that’s shipped all over the world.

Built for processing many types of fibres, including exotic fibres such as alpaca, llama, mohair, qiviut and cashmere, their machines produce high-quality finished products. All done on site, they help create a luxurious texture that’s churned into yarn by watching how the fibers are sorted, cleaned, and combed.

Local knitters then use the yarn to craft beautiful one-of-a-kind treasures that can be purchased at the on-site store. The store itself is worth a visit, welcoming customers to a kaleidoscope of colour, coordinated from the ceiling to the floor, including knitting, crochet and felting kits, weaving supplies and spinning wheels, and other products that you simply won’t find anywhere else!

For those who can’t explore the world of colour in person, you can find these beautiful fibres on their online shop or any accessories you may need. And when you are looking for tips, tricks, and a laugh, their YouTube Channel “Worsted Fibre Podcast” allows you to sit and enjoy the company of the Mini-Mills podcast co-hosts. Click play and you’ll soon feel like you’re in a workshop, class, or just enjoying a chat with two good friends and the Corner Goblin.
