Close your eyes and let your worries slip away as you drift from the shore! Feel that warm summer sun on your face and sea breeze through your hair as you listen to the water splash against the ferry’s hull. Travelling by ferry is so much more than a way to get to PEI, it’s a total Maritime experience! Leave the hassle of the highway behind you, this is what vacation should feel like.
Riding the ferry is an unforgettable part of your PEI vacation. A sail across the Northumberland Strait is a 75-minute respite from the road and – if you’re super lucky – an opportunity to see small whales, seals, playful porpoises and sea birds.
Two ferry boats cross the straight transporting vacationers from Caribou, NS to the red shore at Wood Islands, PE. Both the mv Holiday Island and the mv Confederation offer indoor and outdoor viewing decks with plenty of room to relax and enjoy the views of the sparkling sea as you watch the island draw nearer. The Salt Water Café aboard both vessels allows you and your crew to recharge and refuel while still at sea.
Sweet Treats & Souvenirs
Satisfy your sweet tooth on the mv Confederation with COWS ice cream, or shop for the perfect COWS t-shirt. Bring a little vacation back home with souvenirs from the gift shop made by local merchants on both sides of the Northumberland Strait.
A True Maritime Experience
Summertime crossings feature a fresh offering of Seaside Experiences showcasing the finest music, entertainment, food, wine, and beer samplings the region has to offer. The series features chef demonstrations and locally-produced food & beverage to sample and sip, just in time to take a seat and enjoy the show! On select afternoon crossings from July through September, local artists and musicians take the stage. Sit back and relax as they play the soundtrack to your sea passage, performing live, toe-tapping, Maritime tunes during the Music On Deck series. If you’re timing is right, you may even catch live music in the ferry terminals!
Check the calendar of events for the full scoop on all the food and fun!
There’s a bit of nostalgia that locals love about the ferry – being transported back to a time when it was the only way to travel across the Northumberland Strait. There’s plenty of memories to reflect on, ferry boats have been crossing this strait for 79 years!
Fun and Games
Free WiFi and a fun photo booth are perks sure to please the young and young at heart. Little kiddos can explore the children’s play area aboard the mv Confederation and select Sunday sailings offer face painting throughout the summer. Embrace the retro vibe with throwback arcade games. Does your kind of vacation include a good book and some time to yourself? Then kick back and let the gentle sea rock your cares away.
